On The Last Day loses lead singer

Photo: courtesy of flickr.com

I just read that local post-hardcore band On The Last Day's lead singer Geoff Walker is no longer in the band. On their website the band does not specify whether he quit or was kicked out, but they did explain that Geoff did not want to take the band in the same direction as the rest of the members. Apparently this was not a difference they could overcome. Now the band is auditioning new vocalists that it seems they want to add immediately. When considering applicants, On the Last Day wants someone who fits with their current sound and is in their 20's (but younger can still apply). If you, or someone you know, is interested in auditioning On The Last Day requests you email them at singforotld@gmail.com with something that the band can listen to.

These will certainly be big shoes to fill.

Bayside's Walking Wounded

Although this record was released back in February, it is excellent and if you haven't heard it you had better check it out. After experiencing a terrible tragedy in their band, losing one member in a terrible car crash, Bayside put out an uplifting and inspirational album that celebrated life.
The opening track, "Walking Wounded" is as unique as it is energizing. In the least, this tune will get you excited about life's challenges. At the most, it could guide you through struggles. I love Vinny Caruana's guest vocal as he cries out "Scientists they, couldn't fix me I'm so tired of getting out of bed!"
The track "Dear your Holiness" is an interesting venture into spirituality and a higher power. I find it thoughtful and relatable.
Another one of my favorite tracks is "Landing feet first." While it is slower with a romantic theme, this song still boasts the excellent lyricism that Bayside is known for.

Definately give this record a listen at

Bayside's website

or MySpace page

Bayside will be on Warper Tour this summer. I know I'm looking forward to hearing these songs live!

Kane Hodder

Alright, First I must admit that I am not a huge Kane Hodder fan. It is not my personal taste. But I do have respect for the band. They have an awesome following and have continued making awesome, original music for years now. They will be playing several shows in Seattle and Tacoma this week, so if you have never heard them before, you ought to give them a listen. Though this is a hard band to put in any genre, if pressed I would say punk meets hardcore with a whole lot of other things thrown in. On their myspace page the band themselves describes their music as "totally like that movie Back To The Beach having carnal relations with Poseidon, a Cupid, and a Takashi Mike movie." Whatever that means....

Upcoming shows:
May 12 Hells Kitchen
May 20 El Corazon
June 2 El Corazon

Check their music out on Myspace, Purevolume, or the bands web site. Or you can watch their video for "I think Patrick Swayze is Sexy" here:

Aaron Gillespie side project

I love Underoath, and now Aaron Gillespie has stepped out from behind the drums and given birth to The Almost, a lighter side project that I can't get enough of.
Although some choruses are super melodic and might seem to lean towards pop-punk, the versus are dark and intriguing. After the fist time I listened to "Say this Sooner" I was hooked, blasting it over and over in my apartment (likely to the dismay of my neighbors).
The mellower hits, like "Amazing because It Is" give the listener a look into Gillespie's internal, spiritual struggles- who can't relate to that?

Of course Gillespie's vocals keep the music realistic, blending an all encompassing melody with raw emotion, one of the characteristics I love the most about Underoath.
